City Club Forum Addresses the Future of Higher Education in Ohio

Fri 12/1 @ 11:30AM

Higher education has faced a lot of challenges in recent years. Student debt has skyrocketed, while states’ investment in their once-stellar public universities has declined in every state. Meanwhile, anti-education zealots on the right have accused “liberal elites” of “indoctrinating” students with “radical left” ideology while those same zealots have degrees from elite schools such as Harvard and Yale (Ron DeSantis, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, JD Vance — the list goes on and on. Education for me, not for thee!)

Meanwhile, Ohio legislators have made ignorant, destructive proposals for dictating what the state’s public colleges and universities can or can’t teach, although so far, they’ve been too busy debating dire emergencies facing the state, such as Drag Queen Story Hours, to do anything about it.

In the midst of all this, Cleveland’s three universities, two public, one private, have had leadership changes. Now all three of these new presidents — Case Western Reserve’s Eric Kaler and Cleveland State’s Dr. Laura Bloomberg, who both started in 2021, and Tri-C’s Michael Baston, who started last year — will join the City Club for a discussion on “The Future of Higher Education.” It will be moderated by Baldwin Wallace tenured Professor of Leadership in Higher Education Ken Schneck.

The forum will be livestreamed on the City Club’s website starting at noon. If you have questions, you can tweet them to @TheCityClub or text 330-541-5794.
