All over the world on the third Sunday of November, people mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. In Cleveland, the event is hosted, of course, by Bike Cleveland, whose founding mission is to advocate for making streets safer for all.
“In the United States, an estimated 46,000 people were killed in vehicle crashes in 2022,” they point out. “Millions more suffer life-altering injuries that destroy careers, strain income and alter family relationships. These staggering numbers represent an increase of nearly 22% compared with pre-pandemic numbers. Our roads are more dangerous than they’ve been in nearly two decades. The numbers keep rising.”
Memorialists will gather at the corner of Harbor and Bridge in Ohio City to both honor the victims and urge action to prevent future casualties. If you have a story to share, go to Bike Cleveland’s website to use the form provided.
All are welcome.
