Summer is really, truly ending now: this week Riverdog Barn in Lorain County hosts its final show of the season. Doing the honors is Toronto’s Lonesome Ace Stringband, whose bluegrass-infused old-time music fits right in with Riverdog’s laidback, rustic vibe.
The deeply experienced trio, who play banjo, fiddle and bass and sing those traditional backwoods harmonies, launched the band in 2007 and played locally at a Toronto club or seven years before ever going on the road or releasing music. But since then, they’ve been on fire professionally, playing major festivals in both North America and Europe and putting out six albums, including their just-released Try To Make It Fly.
As usual, coolers and picnic baskets are welcome at Riverdog. “If the forecasts are correct, it looks to be the warmest night we have had since September, but we are still planning to keep our firepits going,” they say.
