Take a Hike & Learn the History of the Big Creek Area

Sat 10/21 @ 1PM

There’s almost no better time of year for a hike in the woods. It’s neither hot nor freezing (you’ll work up a sweat to stay warm anyway), the turning leaves offer a range of colors, and with many flowers still in bloom, the landscape is studded with bright yellow, purples and white as well.

Even better, take a hike where you can learn something about how that landscape was shaped and how it’s interacting with the built environment. “Brookside Yesterday & Today” at Cleveland Metroparks’ Brookside Reservation with share the history of Big Creek from its original state to changes when I-71 was built, as well as the effect of Brookside Park and the Zoo on the neighborhood. The hike includes a visit to a unique wetland area.

The walk will feature guest speakers archaeologist Dr. Roy Larick and Michael Blair, project manager of the Northeast Ohio Regional District.

Park and meet at John Nagy Boulevard near the spillway, about 1/2 mile from the Ridge Road entrance. Dress for the weather, including possible muddy trails. There will be refreshments!

It’s free; RSVP here. For more information contact Bob Gardin at bgardin@bigcreekconnects.org or 216.269.6472.
