Singer/Songwriters Alex Bevan and Brent Kirby Share a Bill at Riverdog Barn

Sat 10/14 @ 7:30PM

Two of the area’s most prominent and best-known singer/songwriter/guitar players are Alex Bevan and Brent Kirby, two gentlemen a generation apart whose busy schedules find them cropping up at all sorts of venues and events all over the region, including this weekend sharing a bill at Lorain County’s Riverdog Barn.

Alex Bevan, who is 73, has been playing at local folk clubs since the mid 60s and released his first album in 1971, his latest this year. And he’s still as active and creative as ever, if not more so, gigging both as a solo act and with other players, writing new songs constantly in a vast range of styles — comedic, elegiac, narrative — and singing in a clear, supple voice that sounds like he’s half his age. He’s gotten less attention for his virtuostic guitar playing which ranks him among the best players in the area.

Brent Kirby, a generation younger, is more of a rocking singer/songwriter who’s played with bands such as the Jack Fords, New Soft Shoe and the Ohio City Singers, as well as a packed schedule of solo shows. H’s also become known as an organizer, promoter and mentor, seeking out and creating opportunities to play for both himself and other area musicians, such as his long-running songwriter showcase 10 x 3, currently running biweekly at the BOP STOP.
