PechaKucha Program Looks at Lakefront Development Plans

Fri 10/20 @ 4PM

Cleveland’s PechaKucha nights return with a program taking place at the Rock Hall’s Foster Theatre. For those not familiar with these worldwide presentations, they involve a group of speakers around a theme, each of whom speaks about their project or area of expertise. The unique twist is that they’re accompanied by 20 slides and they talk while each is shown for 20 seconds.

The subject of this edition is the city of Cleveland’s master plan for the lakefront, supposedly making it more accessible to all Clevelanders. They point out that since 1903, there have been 16 official, as well as unofficial, plans to do so. This program, titled “Untold Lakefront Stories,” wil share some of those stories.

“These development stories often leave out people and places that do not fit neatly into the narrative of progress and prosperity,” they say, which describes one such drawing I saw recently of a plan to turn the area around the football stadium into an over-designed upscale tourist-type attraction.

Now Mayor Bibb is spearheading a team to create another such master plan. An following the PechaKucha program, which runs from 530-6:30pm, his team with present a North Coast Lakefront draft master plan update. There’ll also be light refreshments and a cash bar.

The event is free; register here.
