Oberlin Opera Presents Britten’s Comic Opera “Albert Herring”

Thu 11/2-Sat 11/4 @ 8PM

Sun 11/5 @ 2PM

The acclaimed Oberlin Opera offers students in the conservatory’s Vocal Studies Division the opportunity to perform in a fully staged, professional-level production of a significant opera, double-cast to give more students their chance onstage.

This fall’s opera is Benjamin Britten’s 1947 chamber opera Albert Herring, set in a rural English town preparing to elect its May Queen. When the townspeople find none of the local girls virtuous enough, they decide to make the shy Albert Herring May King. But what he does with his prize money turns everything on its head. It’s a comic opera because no one dies in the end!

The production is staged by Oberlin Opera director Stephanie Havey and music director Michael Sakir, with music provided by the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra. It will have four performances at Oberlin’s Hall Auditorium,
