Northeast Ohio jazz bassist Kevin Robert Martinez lived in Chicago for a decade and immersed himself in that city’s vibrant jazz scene. Eventually he came home to Cleveland’s own lively jazz community where he’s performed with several ensembles — a trio, the BOP STOP jam session house band and his Reclamation Band, described as “modern jazz with an open rural backdrop,” combining composed and improvised elements. The sextet includes Martinez, percussionist Anthony Taddao, guitarist Dan Bruce, bass clarinetist Tony Spicer, trumpet player Garrett Folger and tenor sax player Tim McDonald.
That band will be at the BOP STOP this weekend celebrating the release of their debut recording These Roads!, which they’ll perform in its entirety. They’ll have the music available on CD and vinyl. Go here for tickets.
