Once again for the 19th year, Cleveland Public Theatre is hosting Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) at its Gordon Square campus and throughout the adjoining neighborhood, organized by the event’s artistic director  Héctor Castellanos Lara.

The day/evening is a blitz of sights, sounds and activities, with international Latino music in the Parish Hall and Church at CPT buildings, official altars in the church building and a “cemetery” of memorial altars outside. Food and craft vendors fill the parking lot outside, offering a taste of Latin arts and culture.

The main event is the Skulls & Skeletons parade, stepping off at 3:30pm from the CPT parking lot. Grand Marshall Antonio Serna, banner leader Olga Rosado and the Samba de Cidade band will lead costumed revelers west on Detroit Avenue to the Craciun Berry Funeral Home where more displays honor those who have passed on, the basis of this celebration.

The event is free, and even many of those on the sidelines watching the parade come dressed or the occasion. Get more information here.
