Ex-Peace Corps Volunteers Raise Money for Ongoing Projects at Soups of the World

Sat 11/4 @ 6-9PM

The bi-annual benefit “Soups of the World,” is hosted by the Northern Ohio Returned Volunteer Association (NORVA), an organization of former Peace Corps volunteers that raises money to continue projects they worked on overseas. They also fund local projects to promote international education and global citizenship and engage in activities such as tutoring at-risk and homeless students.

The event, taking place at the National Slovenian Home on St. Clair, will offer guests tastes of soups made by the volunteers with the knowledge they gained while living abroad. Among them:  Indonesian bakso with meatballs, veggies and spicy sambal; Peruvian aguadito, a chicken and quinoa soup flavored with coriander; chicken, quinoa, and an East African peanut butter stew with the enticing name, tigga-digga-na.

Guests can enjoy as much soup as they can put away, served in hand-thrown pottery bowls they can keep. There’ll also be a silent auction featuring items such as a handmade quilt and a weekend at a lake house.
