Tue 10/3-Sun 10/8
The Chagrin Documentary Film Festival, now in its 14th year, is, like most film festivals, multiple days of sensory overload.
It kicks off Tuesday October 3 with a VIP reception. But the serious film watching begins on Wednesday morning with ‘Films, Bagels and Shorts” at 10am, a program of short historical films hosted by the Chagrin Falls Historical Society and taking place at their facility in downtown Chagrin Falls.
For the rest of that day and for three days following, dozens of films will be showing at venues all over downtown Chagrin Falls. The range of topics and approaches to them is vast: athletes with disabilities, Black culture, LGBTQ Muslims, human trafficking, environmental activism, whales, the influence of James Bond, Ohio history and culture, a Cambodian refugee’s return to his county, segregation in Cleveland in the 1960s, the skills of service animals, the afterlife of war hostages, and Russia’s private militia, the Wagner Group. And those are just scratching the surface.
There are also parties, Q&As with filmmakers and even a local honey-tasting connected with a film about bees. It closes Sunday October 8 with the film The Orchestra Chuck Built and a live performance by Cleveland’s Contemporary Youth Orchestra.
OK, it’s not QUITE over. If you couldn’t make it in person, you can watch the films anytime between October 9-16 on demand in your home.
