BOP STOP Celebrates its 9th Anniversary as Part of The Music Settlement

Tue 10/17-Sun 10/22

It’s been nine whole years now since the BOP STOP, built from the ground up as a jazz venue, was gifted to the nonprofit Music Settlement as an extension of its facilities in University Circle and now just up the street at Detroit near West 25th.

Since then, it’s hosted a variety of concerts and special events. The heavy focus is still on jazz, but it’s also presented folk, gospel, rock, reggae, blues, noise, singer/songwriter showcases, films, comedy, classical, student recitals, jam sessions and even networking events.

This week the club will be celebrating its anniversary all week, starting on Tuesday October 17 with its monthly Outlab improvisational jam from 9-11pm. This event invites all adventurous musicians to come and bring their preferred sound generator to get a groove going with other players with a penchant for sonic exploration. It’s free to play or listen.

Then on Friday, October 20 @ 8pm, the BOP STOP’s 9th Anniversary Party will feature Akron trumpet player Tommy Lehman and his quartet: keyboard player Andru Senpai, bassist Smokeface and drummer Gabe Jones. Lehman is an alum of a couple of the area’s many fine jazz programs — Tri-C and Cleveland State University —as well as the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music. He’s played with many ensembles in the area including Nathan-Paul and rhe Admirables, Bassel & the Supernaturals, and Dan Wilson and Voices and recently realized his second album under his own name, titled Uplift.
