Bonfoey Gallery Celebrates 130 Years in the Art Business

Fri 10/6 @ 5-8PM

It’s hard to believe but Bonfoey Gallery, Cleveland’s high-end art gallery in Playhouse Square, turns 130 this month! Yes, 130 — in a business where longevity is likely to mean a decade or two. But Bonfoey was founded long before even the Cleveland Museum of Art existed.

Initially it provided framing and preservation services to high-end clients on Millionaires’ Row, which continue to this day with a large framing and restoration department. But in the mid 20th century, it began to grow its art dealing business and it’s now one of the premiere dealer of regional contemporary fine art and it hosts regular exhibits of both established area artists and rising art stars.

The gallery opens its anniversary exhibit on October 6, when it hosts a reception to celebrate. It will feature a range of the artists it’s shown over the years, including currently active artists such as Christopher Pekoc, Dana Oldfather, and Laurence  Channing, and historical northeast Ohio art stars including Abel Warshawsky, Viktor Schreckengost, Julian Stanczak and Joseph O’Sickey.
