Volunteers Needed to Prep and Paint Art for Safety on Intersections and Curbs

Painted sidewalks, including crosswalks, are becoming an increasingly popular way to bright urban landscapes, often making statements about the neighborhood and its residents.

In the last year, residents of several Cleveland neighborhoods have been working on a number of such projects, described as “tactical urbanism,” with a goal of improving safety for cyclists and pedestrians with high-visibility crosswalks and curb extensions.

The neighborhoods include Clara Westropp Elementary School, Greenwood Park, Paul Dunbar Elementary & the Columbus/W. 25th intersection and East 156th & Waterloo Road in the Waterloo Arts District.

If you’d like to help out with the installation, they’re looking for help! You don’t have to be an artist or know what you’re doing – they’ll show you — and everyone 13 and over is welcome as long as those under 18 are with an adult. Younger kids are welcome to watch and draw on the sidewalks with provided chalk. For more information, contact jenna@bikecleveland.org.

Go here for a schedule of dates and to sign up. It’s already underway with work dates this week on September 8 and 10.
