Photographer Shares Story Behind Her Photos of Refugee Family

Fri 9/8 @ 7-8PM

One of the multiple shows comprising the fourth annual Cleveland Photo Fest, now on view at the Bostwick Design Art Initiative, is Joan Lederer’s Africa to Cleveland — Seeking Asylum in Our Community. Lederer created the photos over a period of many months as she got to know a Congolese refugee family settling into their new home in Cleveland.

On Friday September 8, she and her guests will be talking about the work and the stories behind them at the Bostwick. She’ll share her parents’ story as Holocaust survivor to introduce the life-or-death challenges faced by refugees today, and lawyer Brian Hoffman will talk about the ethical and legal challenges in dealing with refugees. Jonas Nsongi will be on hand to answer questions.

The program is free and open to all.
