Oberlin Outdoor Concert Features Work by Environmentalist Composer

Fri 9/8 @ 6PM

Come to Oberlin’s Tappan Square to take in a free, no-tickets-required performance of environmentalist-turned-composer John Luther Adams’ Crossing Open Ground. It had its premiere performance last month at the Aspen Music Festival and School, which co-commissioned it with the Barry Lopez Foundation for Art & Environment. One of the composer’s specialties is works intended for such outdoor performances  in order to connect listeners to his source of inspiration.

The performers will be members of the Oberlin Conservatory’s woodwinds, brass and percussion division, under the direction of conductor Timothy Weiss, Oberlin’s director of conducting and ensembles. During the 75-minute performance the musicians will move slowly through the outdoor space. Rain date is Sunday September 10 @ 2:30pm.
