Cipriani started the rescue to re-home pet skunks (which are not taken from the wild but bred to be domestic) whose owners didn’t realize what a handful they are. She started an informal get-together for skunk owners that eventually outgrew her back yard and turned into a public event.

And the event is about more than skunks. Other rescues come and set up there — you can pretty much count on Ferrets Unlimited having some of their adoptable ferrets available for petting. festival isn’t limited to skunks. Over the years they’ve hosted rescues for tropical birds, Dalmatians, greyhounds, bait dogs and kittens. Pigs, possums and therapy bunnies are among the pts making appearances in previous years.

The event also features lots of vendors, most with pet-related products as well as craft and gift items; speakers; games; raffles and booth with human food.
