Lorain’s FireFish Festival Celebrates Darkness and Light

Sat 9/16 @ 2-10PM

The FireFish Festival in Lorain, a participatory arts event now in its 8th year, has morphed into many shapes since its founding in 2015.

This year it will be a one-day event back in downtown Lorain whose theme is “Fire in the Sky: Transcending Dark & Light.” It anticipates next April’s total eclipse, projected to be a major tourist event in northeast Ohio.

It will be a day and evening filled with creative art installations — what makes this festival unique — along with food, vendors, music, dance, street entertainers, and hands-on art activities. Broadway, its storefronts and its adjoining alleys will be filled with things to do and see.

As usual, the crowning event is the Burning of the FireFish as darkness falls, following the procession, led by musicians, down to Black River Landing where the huge fish will be set aflame. This year’s procession will be a parade of lanterns made by artists and community members. That will be followed by the festival’s closing performance at 9:30: a fire aerial performance by Flow with Tay.
