Local Indie Horror Filmmakers Gather at Akron Civic Theatre

Sat 9/16 @ 4:45PM

It seems like to “go to” genre for every aspiring filmmaker is horror, so it probably wasn’t hard to find film to fill the Akron Horror Short Film Festival, taking place at the Akron Civic Theatre.

A group of local artists chose 20 scary films, ranging from 18 seconds (!) to 15 minutes. All were created by filmmakers who currently or formerly lived in Ohio, “spanning various ages, gender identities, ethnicities and countries of origin,” showing that a fascination with horror knows no bounds.

The films will be screened in the Akron Civic’s main auditorium where there’ll also be Q&A sessions with experts on subjects such as low-budget filmmaking, fight choreography and creating special effects without much money, and live music as well. There will also be a 13-minute loop of five micro-films showing continuous in Knight Stage space. The event opens with a mixer at 4:45 and concludes with a Killer Karaoke After Party in the Grand Lobby Mezzanine.
