Fri 8/11 @ 5-10PM
It’s summer so the monthly Walkabout Tremont will still have vendors and performers of all types lining its main drag, Professor Avenue. They say it’s the last outdoor-focused Walkabout of the year so catch the action while you can. Dr U.R. Awesome will be back with his giant bubbles, stilt walkers will be working the streets, and there’ll be street performances by the Tribe Ostara Belly Dancers, the Cleveland Kiltie Bagpipe Band and electronic quarter Vanillaphase.
The theme this month is Let’s Luau, so many of the neighborhood’s restaurants and bars will be offering tropical food and drink specials.
There’s art too! Kaiser Gallery and Cocktail Bar will be opening Nowstalgia, for which six artists — Khrystyna Bodnaruk, Donald Halpern, Cesar Conde & CJ Hungerman, Patsy Coffey Kline, and Cale Ours — have produced work that takes images from the past and gives them a futuristic feel. “Their art captures the chaos of Internet culture, reminds us of a simpler time, and inspires us to move forward,” the gallery tells us. “Driven by our need for connectivity and escapism, the nowstalgia trend permits us to re-imagine the past, creating a collage of nostalgic references.” The opening runs from 6-9pm
Across the street at 818 Studios, you’ll find the final month of its Art Shop at 818, with work by nearly two dozen artists available for purchase, much of it very affordable. And also within a block’s walk, Doubting Thomas Gallery will be showing the work of more than 40 artists in the KEEN Zine art show from 5-11pm. (The party always runs late at Doubting Thomas.)
If you’re willing to walk a few blocks, there’s also a show called the 4C art show in the former Sokolowski’s parking lot from 5-11pm, with 10 artists displaying work in 10 pods. We’re not familiar with them but they say, “4C’s mission is to foster understanding and connections through the power of art and dialogue. We bring together diverse perspectives from the community, communication, Cleveland, and connections to explore issues from a broader view.”
