Fri 8/4 @ 6-9PM
Walk All Over Waterloo on the first Friday of each month offers a great opportunity to stop in the street’s art galleries to see what’s new, as well as listen to some music on the Tower Stage at East 156th and Waterloo, presented by Cleveland Rocks: Past, Present, Future.
This month, you can grab a chair and listen to power-pop quartet Total Downer (kind of an odd name for such an ebullient musical style), led by Andy Schumann, playing music from their debut album Caretaker. They’ll be followed by the area’s beloved sci-fi post-punk band Public Squares, who describe themselves as a collision of the Cure, Black Sabbath and Black Flag. They recently released a new album called HITS!, which aren’t, but if you love them, they’re YOUR hits.
Be ure to stop in Waterloo Arts where a new exhibit addresses an issue that’s roiling the neighborhood: the eviction of long-time residents from the trailer park at Lakeshore and East 156th to expand the Metroparks’ footprint. Called Mobile Home, it “explores the Euclid Beach Mobile Home Park as a place in transition” in la-di-dah artist-statement language. (Probably should have used the word “site” instead of place” though.) Stop in from 6-9pm and see work by a group of neighborhood artists brought together by artists/Collinwood residents Krista Tomorowitz and Timothy Callahan addressing issues raised by the pending eviction of the community at the trailer park. The show includes weavings by the late Rubi Greene, polaroid transfer ceramics by Val Grossman, walnut ink drawings by Timothy Callaghan, a table-scape installation by Krista Tomorowitz in collaboration with Lori Kella, and photography by Bridget Caswell and Will Slabaugh. There’ll be an artist walk-through at 6:30pm.
Then stick around for an after party in the alley featuring music by longtime Cleveland hip hop band Muamin Collective.
