The Great Geauga County Fair Is Back with Five Days of Fun and TWO Demolition Derbies

Thu 8/31-Mon 9/4

Yes, the official name of Geauga County’s fair is “The Great Geauga County Fair,” an appellation no other Ohio county dares to use. And this fair certainly earns that unique adjective. Not only is it sprawling and immense, but it’s also Ohio’s oldest county fair: it celebrated its bicentennial last year.

The fair opens on Thursday, August 31, and hits its fun-filled stride almost immediately, with a chicken-flying contest at noon in the small grandstand, and the big kahuna of county fair events, the Demolition Derby, at 8pm in the main grandstand.  Of course, the rides, tents, games, special shows and exhibit halls will all be open as well with an array of activities that could easily keep a person entertained for five straight days: livestock judging, magic shows, youth fishing, cooking demonstrations, sea lion splash shows, the Buckeye Retrievers’ “Dogs That Make a Splash” and regular performances by the Great Geauga County Fair Band.

On Saturday there’s a SECOND demolition derby in case you couldn’t grab a ticket to the first (they’re very, very popular!), and Sunday features a horse show and a worship service, depending on your taste. Frog jumping and a rodeo highlight Monday, the final day of the fair.
