Sat 9/2 @ 4:30-9PM
There’s a new music event in town, called the Hingetown Jazz Festival. And while most of the names will be familiar to patrons at one of the three participating venues, the BOP STOP, it’s a chance to check out a bunch of topnotch local talent, both veterans and rising stars, within an area of couple of blocks — for free.
At 4:30pm, the Jackie Warren/Sammy DeLeon Trio, featuring the pianist and timbales musicians who drive much of the area’s Latin jazz scene, performs at 4:30 at the BOP STOP. At 5pm, the Johnny Cochran Trio, led by a young sax player who attended the Claveland School of the Arts and Oberlin Conservatory, will take the stage at Jukebox. Another Oberlin grad, sax player Max Schlenk, leads his quartet at North High at 5:30pm. Pianist Theron Brown’s Trio performs at Jukebox at 6pm, and the Tommy Lehman Quartet, featuring trumpeter Lehman, takes over North High at 6:30pm.
Both the final performances take place at the BOP STOP and feature noted stars of the area jazz scene. Jazz/global percussionist and Oberlin pro Jamey Haddad leads at quartet at 7pm, and vocalist Vanessa Rubin closes the evening fronting a quartet at 8:15.
The event is free thanks to the sponsorship of the Local 4 Music Fund.
