Sat 8/19 @ 9:30AM-11PM
The annual Highland Square Porch Rokr Music & Arts Festival is one massive blowout of a festival, where virtually anyone who is anyone in the Akron music scene gets a time slot and there are plenty of bands from around the region as well.
An it’s almost any type of music you can think of, from folk to bluegrass to emo to reggae to noise to blues to “middle eastern prog rock.” There’s even musical theater courtesy of Weathervane Playhouse, who’ll be doing Matilda The Musical in the opening slot at 11am.
No, you won’t be able to hear even a fraction of what’s on offer given that there are more than 150 acts, with as many as 18 in a single time slot. So check out the program in advance and choose wisely!
Things start at 9:30-10:30am with free yoga at the main stage to get you limbered up for a long day, which wraps at 9-11pm with a silent disco.
Oh, and that’s not all. There are also dozens of vendors offering art, crafts, books, antiques, music, henna tattoos, massotherapy, jewelry, men’s grooming supplies and more. There are also booths from organizations such as the City of Akron, the Akron Art Museum, 91.3 The Summit and the Akron Zoo, a kids’ zone, a karaoke stage, dozens of food vendors and of course a beer garden.
The event is free, so you can spend the money elsewhere.
