Help Feral & Stray Cats at Waterloo Alley Cat Benefit

Sat 8/26 @ 3-6PM

You know us: we can’t get enough of cute animals and we can’t do enough to help those in need. That’s why benefits for animal rescues are always at the top of our list.

Fourteen years ago, Debbie & Pete Gulyas opened their vintage record store Blue Arrow in the Waterloo Arts District and found the area overrun with stray cats.  So they founded the Waterloo Alley Cat Project to get them spayed and neutered, feed and care for them and get them vet care when needed.  The cats live in colonies, a garage, a cottage and a house around the neighborhood. They’re aided by a team of feline-loving volunteers. In 14 years, they’ve fixed hundreds of cats and seldom see kittens anymore unless they’re dumped and they’ve been successful in finding homes for most of the dumped cats and kittens.

Of course all this costs money — Debbie has estimated that it costs $2,000 a month to feed the approximately four dozen cats they care for throughout the neighborhood, with vet bills adding to their costs. That’s why the Waterloo Alley Cat is again hosting its fun benefit party at Cavotta’s Garden Center, one of Collinwood’s loveliest hidden event spaces, with its beautiful landscaping, large covered pavilion, good service and full bar, along with goats, chickens and, yes, resident cats.

Admission is free to come in and hang out; the bar and kitchen will be open to purchase drinks and food. There’ll be some spectacular gift basket raffles, a 50/50 raffle, music and lots of cat lovers to share your photos with, because we know most of the photos on your phone are of your cats, right? It’s 21and over only.
