Once upon a time the Ohio & Erie Canal was a prime mode of transportation, essential in building up Ohio towns and farm communities. And that time was the era that Hale Farm and Village in Bath recreates with its replica of a 19th-century pioneer settlement, which offers a look at the everyday life and practices of such a village, with its demonstrations of crafts such as food processing, weaving, blacksmithing and more.
On Canal Exploration Day, visitors will also learn about how such communities interacted with the Canal: how, when and why it was built, who benefited and how, what trade was like on the canal, where it went and what town grew up around it, and when and why the canal era ended, bringing change to settlements such as the one Hale Village recreates.
There’ll be special demonstrations, storytelling, hands-on activities and music across the village and throughout the day. It’s included with regular admission.
