Tue 8/22-Sun 10/29
As usual, the Canton Museum of Art opens a swath of shows at the same time, offering a batch of new things to look at and explore.
They include Human/Nature: The Painted Trimpe L’Oeil Constructions of Ron Isaacs. Cincinnati-born, Kentucky-basedIsaacs uses paint, plywood and cutouts to create the illusions that “trompe l’oeil” suggests. His main interests are plants, vintage clothing and found objects, singularly or in combination.
In Family Album: Our Stories by Seattle-based Ohio native Amy Pleasant, viewers can learn about the stories of families — her own and others — through figurative paintings that focus on women. Her interest was partially fueled by discarded family photos found at the Hartville Flea Market that offer speculation about these strangers and how to remember them.
Other shows include Legacy: Getting to Give, Giving to Get featuring ceramics by Canton’s own Susan Mentrak who was inspired to change mediums from illustration to ceramics after registering for a Canton Museum of Art ceramics class she saw advertised on Facebook. And An American Journey: Watercolor Achievements from the CMA Collection brings out the history of a medium once considered primarily for amateurs, highlighting artists with Cleveland roots.
The shows will be on view through Sunday October 29.
