Mon 9/4 @ 11AM
The 11th Congressional District Community Caucus Labor Day Parade & Festival is a really big deal. It was started 51 years ago Congressman Louis Stokes, back when it was the 25th district, continued by his successor Stephanie Tubbs Jones and by HER successor Marcia Fudge (Stokes returned to host in 2008 when Tubbs Jones died suddenly less than two weeks before the event).
The parade, which steps off at 11am from East 146th and Kinsman Road, is enormous, second only to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade downtown: it’s a must for candidates, who vie to have the largest delegation, and it’s packed with local businesses, advocacy groups, nonprofits, political organizations, drill teams, dance schools, fraternal groups, high school bands, government agencies, labor unions, Black fraternities and sororities, and more.
Once the parade passes the reviewing stand outside Luke Easter Park, where Grand Marshall Congresswoman Shontel Brown will be overseeing things, everyone will head into the park where there’ll be food trucks, vendors, tables from local organizations, and a kids’ area. The Unit Band will be performing as well. There’s no charge to get in so spend your money with these small local merchants.
