Food festivals abound in the area, with pizza fests and hamburger fests and taco fests, among others. But this is the first we’ve heard of a festival dedicated to pickles.
But the Akron Pickle Festival, taking place at Cascade Plaza in downtown Akron, is promising a packed day devoted to “all things pickle” or as they put it “a preposterous preponderance of pickled provisions, provocative pleasantries, prominent peddlers, and prodigiously preposterous pastimes.”
The festival will feature food trucks, Oddmall vendors (since Oddmall is putting on the event), crafters and artists, pickle-themed games and contests, a pickle parade and — pickleball? We’re not sure about that last one, but it makes sense. But you can for sure bob for pickles, fish for pickles and take part in a pickle-eating contest, a greased pickle throw and a “Dangling Pickle on a String No-Handed Pickle Eating Contest.” Swear to god.
There’ll be a best pickle contest and … a car show? No word on whether there’ll be cars decorated like pickles but don’t count it out.
There’s no admission fee but donations are welcome.
