This one’s for all our friends in the Mahoning Valley, an area too often maligned as a cultural wasteland. Only it’s not, and you can see for yourself at the 25th annual Youngstown State University Summer Festival of the Arts.
The two-day festival takes place in Wean Park, 229 North Front Street, offering loads of fine art and crafts vendors offering wares ranging from jewelry to painting. It also features lots of family-friendly entertainment in the Children’s Entertainment Tent, including magicians, puppets and music, as well as hands-on arts & crafts projects.
Then the grown-ups can stick around on Saturday when the Youngstown Wine & Jazz Fest starts at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre at 7pm with music by Alexander Zonjic, Jessy J, and Youngstown’s own James Lloyd of Pieces of a Dream. Go here for information and tickets.
Also going on nearby is the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Summer Festival from Thursday July 6-Sunday July 9 at 220 North Walnut Street, if you need a hit of spanakopita or souvlaki. The YSU Summer Festival of the Arts is free.
