Trio of Top Area Jazz Players Perform for Wade Oval Wednesday

Wed 7/12 @ 5:30-8:30PM

Wade Oval Wednesday is one of the most popular free outdoor summer concert series in the area, in part because the setting is so lovely and in part because the music bookings are so diverse and appealing to a wide audience, with cover bands kept to a minimum.

This week you can catch a small ensemble of the area’s top jazz musicians when the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra Trio performs. Pianist Jackie Warren, bassist Aidan Plank and drummer Jim Rupp are all part of that esteemed big band, but all three have wide-ranging experience. Rupp, who teaches at The Ohio State University, has toured with the Woody Herman, Glenn Miller and Maynard Ferguson Bands and spent eight years with jazz singer Diane Schuur. Plank teaches at Kent State and Tri-C and leads his own ensemble, Pulse, and plays bass for several other groups. And Warren is widely known in the area for her work in Latin jazz ensembles with timbales player Sammy DeLeon with her supple, rhythmic keyboard work as essential to the beats as those of the percussionists.

Wade Oval Wednesday also feature food trucks and stands, with different mix each week, along with booths from various area organizations such as the Cleveland Public Library and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

It’s free; bring your blanket or folding chair.
