Theater Critic Roy Berko’s Son & Daughter Establish KSU Scholarship in his Name

Regular readers of CoolCleveland will immediately recognize the name of Roy Berko, our tireless theater critic for many years. He seems to manage to get to every theater production of any importance in northeast Ohio, and posts his reviews both here and at his own website. He sometimes reviews dance and music —when he’s not at the theater! He has also written dozens of books, taught theater, communication and psychology on the college level, and is a certified life coach, Reiki practitioners and hypnotherapist.

To celebrate his 90th birthday, his son Eric Berko and daughter Marcia Berko Warren are establishing a permanent scholarship for a theater student at Kent State University, Berko’s undergraduate alma mater, to help grow the next generation of passionate theater supporters.

The Dr. Roy Berko Endowed Commemorative Scholarship will be awarded by the KSU’s Porthouse Theatre’s artistic director each year to a KSU undergrad or graduate student who has shown a commitment to Porthouse Theatre. To learn how to contribute go to https://flashes.givetokent.org/.
