Heinz Poll, choreographer and founder of the Akron-based Ohio Ballet, died in 2006 at the age of 80. But his influence lives on in the dancers who were part of his company, who are sharing his legacy with a new generation of dancers.
His name also lives on in the annual Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival, which presents outstanding dance companies in Akron parks for free performances. Its first concert though takes place at the Akron Art Museum lobby, where Cleveland’s Inlet Dance will perform in Thursday August 3, along with Pacific Paradise entertainment and Ba-Bim Dance Company, with guest artists from Ghana and dance themes from the Philippines.
Then on Friday August 4 and Saturday August 5 Cleveland’s GroundWorks Dance will perform at Firestone Park. The following weekend on Friday August 11 & Saturday August 12, the Dayton Contemporary Dance Co. will be at Goodyear Heights Metro Park. Prior to concert at 7:45, there’s an interactive children’s program.
