Fri 8/4 @ 6-10PM
On August 4, 1901, legendary jazz trumpet player/vocalist Louis Armstrong was born in New Orleans, the city where he was raised. It still claims him as a favorite son, even naming its airport after him.
He also inspired the theme of this month’s MIX party at the Cleveland Museum of Art, which happens to fall on his birthday. Dubbed “Bourbon Street Parade” after New Orleans’ famous party street, it will feature music that will take you there sonically, with soulful, jazzy second line-style music by Mike Wade’s Nasty Nati Brass Band (actually from southwest Ohio near Cincinnati). Before and after their performance, DJ Pillo will keep the mood going, spinning R&B, funk, hip hop and jazz. Expect to be dancing a lot in the museum’s Ames Family Atrium
There will also be Creole-style food items and cocktail, beer and wine available for purchase. And the galleries will all be open for viewing, including the current special exhibition, A Splendid Land: Paintings from Royal Udaipur.
MIX is a 21-and-over event. Get your tickets here.
