Tue 7/18 @ noon
The City Club returns to Public Square to conclude its series of free lunchtime forums there.
This week, the topic is one that’s gotten lots of discussion in multiple forums recently: “Public Art and the Public Realm: Activating Public Spaces in Downtown Cleveland.” Once consisting of the Free Stamp, the Guardians of Transportation and a few other conspicuous pieces, Cleveland is now a virtual canvas with murals and other artwork everywhere you go. In part that’s due to a 2003 bill passed by the city requiring capital improvement projects with budgets of more than $350,000 to spent at least 1.5% of it on public art.
What else has caused the explosion of public art and what are the benefits? You’ll hear from Joe Lanzilotta of LAND Studio, whose business is creating and promoting public art; Deidre McPherson of Assembly for the Arts; Tarra Petras, public art project coordinator for the City of Cleveland; and moderator Allison Lukacsy-Love of the Greater Cleveland Partnership.
It’s free and open to all. Rain location is Old Stone Church on the northwest side Public Square. The forum will be livestreamed at noon. If you have questions, tweet @TheCityClub or text 330-541-5794.
