Fri 6/16 @ 5-9PM
There’s never a bad month to stop by 78th Street Studios on Third Friday but with the weather so nice, more people want to get out of their houses and go see people and things.
There’s still a chance to see Justin Brennan’s beautiful show Wide-Eyed at HEDGE Gallery where you can step back and really appreciate the paintings, a different experience than if you’ve gone up to 78th Street’s top floor and visited his tiny studio.
1300 Gallery is open again (enter from the 78th Street sidewalk) with The Life’s Work of Gery Herr. And stop and say goodbye to mid-century vintage and collectibles shop Googie Style which has outgrown its space on the RAMP level and is consolidating its inventory in its AsiaTown location. But it’s offering special deals so there’s less to move.
Northcoast Promotions will have its artisans and makers in the big event spaces, Local West will have food in its usual location and BARneo will be on the RAMP level offering drinks to benefit ARTneo, the resident museum dedicated to collecting and showing Northeast Ohio art.
And you’ll want to step into ARTneo to see the exhibit of artwork from a 1936 children’s book of animal verses and drawings, written by the legendary author Langston Hughes and illustrated by his friend Elmer Brown, who connected in Cleveland. It was never published in their lifetimes, although Hughes’ poems were published in the 1990s without the original art. Brown’s widow donated his artwork to ARTneo and it’s seen here for the first time. It even got written up in the New York Times. And it’s in your backyard so don’t miss it.
Third Friday is free and open to all, even well-behaved kids and dogs.
