PHOTOSTREAM: Summer Solstice by the Lake by Anastasia Pantsios

06.21.2023 Summer Solstice at the Lake

Wed 6/21

We started our “longest day” walk on the bike path alongside the Lakefront Nature Preserve Meadow, walking to the marina at the end of MLK drive, then to the East 72nd Street lakefront area, and finally to the marina at East 55th Street.

We saw many people fishing, year-round activity at these places. We saw kids playing, and a man exercised, and people riding bikes, and a couple of picnickers. From a distance we saw the lights of at least a dozen emergency vehicles on the road at the East 55th Street area. A group of teenagers coming from that direction told us a suicidal woman had jumped in the water and two bystanders jumped in to try to pull her out. One of the bystanders was hurt. We saw the Coast Guard boat that rescued him and pulled the woman out. We learned she died.

When we walked back to the meadow along the Lakefront Nature Preserve, it was almost dark and the fireflies were out.

Lovely, lovely pictures, as usual, AP. I particularly love the four children on the swing!
