Sun 6/11 @ 2-6PM
If you hang around the Waterloo Arts District, you may have noticed activity going on in the vacant lot at the corner of East 152nd and Waterloo. Or you may have run into Julie Slater and Alyssa Zearley at Walk All Over Waterloo and learned that they were developing Meadow City Native Plant Nursery in that space.
Both have backgrounds in growing that have given them in interest in the value of expanding native plantings. Julie has a masters in ecological restoration from The Ohio State University, while Alyssa, who previously worked at Holden Forests and Gardens, has a degree from OSU in plant health management. The two met, along with their education specialist Dave Tomeshefski, at OSU’s School of Environment and Natural Resources. So the business felt almost like destiny.
Since last year, they’ve been doing pop-up sales around the area but the actual location of their nursery wll be having its grand opening this Sunday June 11. Raddell’s, the Slovenian sausage shop right across the street, will be providing food starting at 4pm. There’ll also be garden designers, local environmental organizations and crafts for kids. Stop by!
