Ensemble Theatre Presents Two Short Plays About Black Family Relationships

Fri 6/30 & Sat 7/1 @ 7:30PM

Sun 7/2 @ 2PM

During the pandemic, Ensemble Theatre’s executive artistic director Celeste Costentino and director/performer Nicole Sumlin started a mini-series called In Our Own Words: Our Stories, Our Voices, featuring short plays that dealt with different aspects of the Black experience.

Now it’s back for the third time, only now it’s not virtual!!! For one weekend only, you can see two short pieces performed live onstage at Ensemble’s home at the Performing Arts Center at Notre Dame College in South Euclid.

Teen with Two E’s by Ghanaian/American writer Jocelyn Bioh is based on the Lynn Nottage play Crumbs From the Table of Joy, exploring family relationships. Former Clevelander now living in L.A. Johnathan Jackson’s All The Flowers Have Died looks at how families cope with complicated situations in the wake of a death. Nicole and Eugene Sumlin direct both mini-plays.

Together the plays run for about half an hour; there’s a talkback following the performance. Get tickets here.
