Veteran Jazz Sax Player Bobby Watson Does Concert & Master Class @ Akron’s HUG Center

Jazz sax player Bobby Watson’s musical career goes back to the mid 70s, when he arrived in New York City an became music director the Jazz Messengers, following his graduation from the university of Miami (Florida), where he attended with other future jazz stars such as Jaco Pastorius and Pat Metheny and rock musician Bruce Hornsby.

Since then, he’s led his own bands while performing with a litany of topnotch musicians including drummers Max Roach and Art Blakey, Marsalis brothers Wynton and Branford, vocalists Carmen Lundy, Dianne Reeves and Betty Carter and soul singer Lou Rawls. He’s also an experienced educator who serves as the director of jazz Studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Watson and his quartet will be performing at Akron’s HÜG – Highland Square Universal Gathering Place. In addition to a tickets evening performance, Watson will be sharing his educator side at a free master class at HÜG’s newly renovated auditorium that afternoon.
