Singer/Songwriter Kimayo Brings her “My Queer Faith” Tour to Trinity Cathedral

Tue 5/23 @ 6:30PM

Kimayo is a singer/songwriter from New England, whose music centers around two defining truths in her life: her faith and sexual/gender identity. They come together in her show, which she has dubbed “My Queer Faith,” which combines music and storytelling to share her mission which she says is “to inspire hope, restoration and unity between LGBTQIA+ folks and faith communities.”

My Queer Faith was birthed out of three core desires,” she says. “One is to highlight and introduce the LGBTQIA+ community to existing open and affirming faith-based safe spaces. I want to emphasize the need for and value of open and affirming faith communities to the LGBTQIA+ community. Finally, I seek a way to connect with open and affirming faith communities as I continue my own faith journey.”

She’ll perform here on Cleveland at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral on the Cleveland State University campus downtown. “I was in search of a church that was welcoming and affirming,” she says. “It was immediately clear from the stories and pictures [on Trinity’s website] that this was the kind of place that I’m seeking to perform on this tour.”

After the concert, there’ll be a reception to meet her and buy her merchandise, as well as interact with other concertgoers, hosted by Trinity’s LHBTQ+ outreach team.

It’s suggested that the event is for adults and mature teens because it deals with sensitive issues of physical and mental health. There’s no set admission charge; it’s a pay-what-you-can donation.
