It’s time to put on your comfortable shoes and take a walking tour of downtown Cleveland, now that the weather is nice.
The Take a Hike tour, sponsored by the Historic Gateway Neighborhood Corporation and the Downtown Cleveland Alliance start June 1 and go on through September 30, both self-guided and led by knowledgeable guides who take you on a walk where you’ll run into historical figures from Cleveland, with costumed actors who’ll tell the story of the person they’re portraying.
There are 14 different tours, with seven offered in June and July and a different seven in August and September, taking place seven days a week and visiting neighborhoods such as Playhouse Square, Ohio City, Erie Street Cemetery and the Superior Arts district. So you can keep going back and learning new things about the city around us. Except for the 45-minute Friday lunch tour, all tours are 90 minutes, and they’re free. Get detailed info and sign up here.
You can also sign up for one of the walking tours hosted by Tours of Cleveland, which are offered year-round. You can choose Cleveland From the Inside, a two hour, 15-minute tour of the interiors of some of downtown Cleveland’s iconic buildings. Or look at the public art found in profusion all over downtown Cleveland. Or just acquaint yourself with city core on the two-hour “Downtown Cleveland” Highlights” tour, taking walkers from Public Square to Playhouse Square. All tours meet at and depart from Public Square’s Mayor Tom Johnson Statue on the north side.
