For its next series of concerts, No Exit New Music, Cleveland’s presenter of avant-garde and newly composed music, is reprising some of its “greatest hits” at three different venues.
All the pieces on the program are pieces it’s performed in earlier seasons including works by Evan Ziporyn, Kaija Saariaho, Krzysztof Penderecki, Alfred Schnittke, Elliot Cole, Shulamit Ran and No Exit’s own Luke Rinderknecht.
“We are relishing the opportunity to take these pieces we’ve played in previous seasons off the shelf and play them again,” says No Exit’s artistic director Timothy Breyer. “So often in the new music world, you play a piece on a program and then you never do it again. But as is the case with all good art, it takes more than one encounter with a piece to really get to know and understand it.”
The ensemble will perform at Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls on Saturday May 6, at Waterloo Arts on Friday May 12, and at Heights Arts Gallery on Saturday May 13. As always, all the concerts are free and open to all.
