Those days are gone, swallowed by cultural homogenization, but once upon a time, you were defined by the local kids’ TV shows you grew up with. How can you tell I’m from Chicago? Captain Penny, Gene Carroll and Superhost mean nothing to me.
The brand-new film The Golden Age of Kids’ TV: Cleveland, which has its world premiere at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque this week, looks at that time from the 50s-70s when each market had its own unique lineup of kids’ shows.
Northeast Ohio TV comedy writer Dan O’Shannon and TV historian Mike Olszewski (whose book From Captain Penny to Superhost provided the impetus for the film) offer commentary that ties together clips from some of those old shows.
O’Shannon will be at the screening and will answer questions after the film. Go here for tickets.
