Join RiverSweep Volunteers to Help Clean Along the Cuyahoga

Sat 5/6 @ 9-11AM

Since 1989 volunteers have been gathering on one day in the spring to pick up garbage along the Cuyahoga River at an event called RiverSweep.

In that time, they’re removed 1.5 million pounds of trash, including nearly 25,000 discarded tires (and it seems like there’s still about 500,000 out there!). Many of the areas that used to be dumping grounds are now parks or hiking/cycling trails.

Each year, more locations are added to the list so you can pick one more convenient to you; there are more than a dozen. If you have a kayak or paddleboard, you can even volunteer to clean ON the river.

Sign up with your family, friend group or by yourself — you’ll quickly meet plenty of like-minded people. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. They’ll provide gloves, cleaning gear, trash bags and Riversweep t-shirts.

Get more information and a list of locations, and register to participate at riversweep.
