Ingenuity Cleveland returned to full strength last September, with a three-day event at its home at the Hamilton Collaboration, following at one-day offsite event in 2021 (pandemic, you know …).
It’ll be back again September 22-24. But in the meantime, if you’d like to get a taste of the creativity of its team of “Ingeneers” and glimpse the magic of its space at “The Ham,” as well as help provide resources to pull it all off, its annual benefit the Ingenuity Bal returns this weekend.
The Bal: Biotique previews the theme of this year’s Ingenuity, “Biologies & Geologies,” exploring nature’s resources and how we interact with them. It’s turned one of the Ham’s largest areas into a wonderland of flora and fauna, flowers and butterflies, to provide a backdrop for a variety of breathtaking performances an hands-on activities.
There’ll be performances from Akron’s soulful Nathan Paul & the Admirables, Wave Magnetik & Rowanne Atallah, who had everyone dancing at last year’s Ingenuity, Viva Dance Studio and Crooked River Circus, plus Dj sets from Splice Cream Truck’s BENINWARD and SqrBiz. Guests can try out the bumper cars from Rollin Buckeyez Foundation, meet reptiles from the Herps Alive Foundation, check out the Peek-a-Booth, dress up at the Costume Bar, and try their hand at printmaking, welding, soldering and more.
A variety of small bites will be provided by local establishments Ninja City, Chutni Punch, Cleveland Bagel Co, Ohio City Pasta and Saroj & Carlos, formerly of Farmer’s Feast at the Bottlehouse. Goldhorn Brewey and Watershed Distillery will be bringing the drinks.
Wear something nature-inspired whether it’s a full costume or your favorite flower earrings.
