Saturday May 13 at noon-4PM

Check out the Cleveland Buzzard Rock N Roll Market will feature hundreds of WMMS and Buzzard items, many pulled from private collections, for sale. We’re talking promo CDs, t-shirts, stickers, posters, merch and memorabilia.

It all takes place at Annika’s Event Center, 36709 Royalton Rd. Grafton, OH  44044.

Photographer Janet Macoska will be signing copies of her book All Access Cleveland: The Rock and Roll Photography of Janet Macoska. Fran Belkin will be signing and talking to fans about her book, Rock This Town: Stories You Never Heard & Swag You Never Saw.

David Helton was an unknown recent grad looking to break into the music business as an artist. He sent a graphic commentary to WMMS radio, now legendary as one of the top progressive rock stations in the county.  WMMS program Director John Gorman gave Helton 24 hours to turn around an ad called “The Wrath of the Buzzard,” and Helton created the iconic Buzzard, which caught on and came to symbolize the underground music of WMMS,  but underground culture in general.

At the Cleveland Buzzard Rock’n’Roll Market, Helton is looking to move out some of his old stock. Gorman says, “David called me and said, `Hey, do you have anything to sell?’ And I went up to the attic, and I was like, ‘I didn’t know I had any of this stuff!’ Gorman said. “We used to do Buzzard jackets, And I’ve got about a dozen Buzzard jackets that were old staff jackets.”

Macoska told CoolCleveland, “Our STAR and major attraction is David Helton, the original Buzzard artist in the 70s and 80s.  When we were all at the Music Box for the after Thanksgiving Music Garage Sale, David had 6-8 people deep at his tables.  They couldn’t get enough of their Buzzard childhood.  We expect it will be even more intense in Grafton.”
