For the last several years, Peninsula’s Ramp Up festival, celebrating the very brief spring season of these scallion-like so-called wild leeks, has been one of those drive-through/pick-up type things the pandemic made necessary.
But we’re so happy to hear that the full festival is back live for the 10th annual Ramp Up and it’s spreading throughout the entire picturesque village. There’ll be fresh ramps available for you to take home, as well as foods made with ramps by vendors including Pierogi Lady, Henry’s Creamery, Stray Dog Carts, Bully Run Coffee, Breadheads Breadery, The Wild Leek and Artisan Foods by K. Bock. And Fishers restaurant will offer ramp Bloody Marys. Please tell us there won’t be ramp ice cream but we wouldn’t be too sure: the annual Garlic Festival features garlic ice cream and the program just says “artisanal ice cream” so …
There’ll be cooking demos and guided walks (including one with a talk on wild edibles you can forage in the spring), a talk about the area’s old barns, a presentation on wild mushrooms, and shopping opportunities and music throughout the village’s businesses.
