There’s a new festival coming to town, inspired by Seville, Spain’s Feria de Abril, a weekend-long event taking place two weeks after Easter that dates back to the 19th century.
Cleveland’s first Feria de Abril will be a little more modest. The Julia de Bergos Center will present an afternoon on Spanish-style food, music, dance and fashion, describing it as “a little bit like a salsa social combined with a county fair.”
Of course that means flamenco and luckily, Cleveland has a very active flamenco troupe called Abrepaso. They’ll be offering short lessons in rumba and Sevillanas, a type of folk dance of the Sevilla region of Spain. Stuents from Abrepaso and Julia De Burgos will perform along with Abrepaso’s founder Alice Blumenfeld and guitarist/singer José Moreno.
