Colombian Cellist Makes His Cleveland Debut at LatinUs Theater

Fri 4/14 @ 7PM

Colombian cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia is just 27 years old but he’s already making quite a splash in the classical music world. He was just six when he made his concert debut in his native Bogota. Since 2017 he’s won or placed in a half dozen major international cello competitions and was named a 2022 BBC Next Generation Artist.

Here in Cleveland, he’ll perform a solo recital under the auspices of the Cleveland Cello Society, at the LatinUs Theater in the Pivot Center for Art, Dance and Expression. His performance, his Cleveland debut, will spotlight works  by Hispanic/Latino composers such as Ponce de Leon, Albeniz, Hoyos, and Pinzon, as well as his own works — he’s also a budding composer.
